Hello from sunny Bavaria,
Schools around the country have started, the leaves have also started to turn, which means it’s time to settle back into our creative routines.
A few notes to keep in mind:
SCBWI has joined the YouTube Generation. You can watch it’s inaugural video here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OdgH2DsAf0#t=23
Whether you are new to SCBWI or been in the trenches for ages, this video is a good reminder on all the benefits everybody should be taking advantage of including the Illustrator’s Gallery, the Speaker’s Bureau, The BOOK, the Blueboard listserv, and a new Book Launch feature – more details coming soon.
And speaking of the Illustrator’s Gallery, I just gave our region’s link to an art director in New York who is looking for new illustrators. Keep your portfolio on theSCBWI.org website up to date! If you need help send me an email and I will point you in the right direction.
New York Conference, February 12-14, 2016.
The Annual Winter Conference is held over two days with an optional intensive day on Friday at the Hyatt Grand Central at Grand Central Station in New York City. Registration for the 2016 conference will commence in October, 2015.
In addition to the traditional Illustrator’s Intensive, the Critique Roundtables and a Writing Intensive, this conference will feature a new intensive just for our PAL members. This day-long discussion will focus on PAL-related issues such as publishing with multiple houses, sustaining career longevity, supplementing your writing income along with other topics.
These intensives sell out quickly so keep an eye open for when registration opens.
Bologna Book Fair April 2016
Our region will purchase showcase time just for our members’ books. Any PAL listed book published after January 1, 2014 is eligible for display. If you’d like your published book to have PAL status, please visit https://www.scbwi.org/pal-publishers/ for more information. More information on how to submit your book(s) to the region showcase to come.
Planning on going to the fair? Authors and Illustrators who will be at the fair can also apply for time to personally showcase their books for free. To apply for a Personal Showcase slot visit https://bologna.scbwi.org/scbwi-bologna-book-fair-2016/personal-showcases-2016/ after November 1 (page is restricted till then). Why not book a slot, or share a space with another PAL member, then send out announcements ahead of time, and invite your publishers to come and watch?
Illustrator members who aren't coming to the fair can still submit work for BIG – Bologna Illustration Gallery. Ten finalists will be displayed at our stand the entire length of the fair. The deadline is November 15, 2015. For more information visit: https://bologna.scbwi.org/scbwi-bologna-book-fair-2016/bologna-illustration-gallery-2016/.
