New Workshop:
Supercharge your Submissions with agent Hannah Sheppard
Whether you are looking for an agent or an editor, nothing is more important than that very first impression. Hannah will talk you through the dos and don'ts of the submission process, focusing on how to write an engaging submission letter, coming up with a winning pitch line, honing your synopsis and how to know when your writing is ready.
There will be time for general questions about the submission process and publishing in general.
One to Ones
Hannah is also offering a limited number of 10 minute one to one critiques. Cost €35. Please submit either one full picture book (1000 word limit) or the opening 10 pages (don't worry about awkward breaks) of your novel double spaced in size 12 font. Provide your title, genre, target age range and total word count. All critiques are due Wednesday, October 12 at 8pm. Please email your submission to Patti at germanyaustria-ra (at) scbwi.org

Join SCBWI at Frankfurt Book Fair (October 21 – 23)
Ever wanted to go to a book fair but never had the chance? Or found all the hotels in the Frankfurt area either overbooked or overpriced? Here's your chance to rent an AirBnB apartment in the Frankfurt area with other SCBWI members and use this apartment as a base for your stay at the fair!
Individual hotel rooms are too expensive for most of us during the fair. But as a group, we would be able to rent an entire apartment to use as a home base during the fair. Because most people have day jobs, the apartment will only be available starting Friday, October 21 and check out will be Sunday, October 23.
Although there is no cost to register, you will be responsible for your share of the lodging, your own food, transportation and booking fair tickets. The apartment we rent will depend on the number of people who sign up. All costs for renting the apartment will be evenly divided between participants. Warning – people will most likely have to share a bedroom and bathroom. If this makes you uncomfortable, then perhaps this isn't for you.
If you want to partake, please go to the website to register: https://germanyaustria.scbwi.org/events/join-scbwi-at-frankfurt-book-fair-october-21-23/
Note: By registering, you are committing to coming and sharing the costs of an apartment for the entire weekend. No partial stays or cancellations will be possible. Due to the need to reserve an apartment a few weeks in advance, registration ends SOON.
For more details or questions, please contact Patti.
Other SCBWI Happenings:
SCBWI Book Launch Parties are back with a new name and they're better than ever. If you've had a book published in 2016, you are invited to participate in our all-new Book Blast.
The Book Blast is open to all SCBWI members with a book out during this calendar year. You can customize your promotional page to tell the unique story about your book.
Create your own world to showcase your book using your words and visuals. Last year, over 50,000 page views proved book lovers and buyers were captivated by the hundreds of pages of picture books, YA novels, middle grade, and nonfiction books. This year we're predicting an even greater turnout. The Book Blast will run 6-weeks, from October 10 to November 18, and will be supported by marketing programs including incentives to page visitors, paid advertising, social media outreach and widespread publicity.
Don't miss out on this chance to make your book shine!

Hope everyone has a great fall and that we'll see you at one of our upcoming events!
