Happy fall everyone,
Where I live, fall has entered with a deluge of rain and cold. Of course this is nothing like the deluge that hit Texas and Louisiana. I've been watching the news in horror, as I'm sure the entire world has. But, because the kidlit community is so awesome, it is stepping up to help the victims of this storm and to help families and school bounce back from this tragedy.
Author Kate Messenger has organized an auction on her website to help the relief effort and at this point over 200 illustrators, authors, agents and editors in the kidlit world have donated their skills or time to the cause. The amount of services and opportunities available to bid on is astounding. Please take the time to check out the auction and if you can afford it, bid on a service from such awesome people as Jill Corcoran, Laurie Halse Anderson and Tara Lazar, to name just a few. A huge thank you to Jehan for opening up her beautiful home to us for the summer BBQ. I had a lovely time catching up with everyone there and really inspired me to do more of that. Thanks to a conversation with Angela, I’ve taken it upon myself to set up a web chat for members interested in catching up with others and to spend an hour (or more) talking about everything kidlit related or not.
The first meeting is scheduled for Monday, Sept 11th at 8pm. If you are interested in joining, please RSVP to me ( germanyaustria-ra@scbwi.org ), by 8pm, Sunday Sept 10th so I can send out invites the night before. If you can’t make this meeting, don’t worry there will be more. Depending upon demand, I’d be happy to schedule these as often as once a month.
Happy creating!
