December 2017

Happy Holidays everyone!

2017 is almost over and whether it was a good year for you or a not-so-good year, I think we can all agree that hopefully 2018 won’t contain quite so much drama.

Regional December Meetups

Hamburg:

Hamburg’s holiday meet-up is on December 9th at 10am. Meet point is the Balzac coffee on Ottenser Hauptstraße in Altona, near the Hamburg-Altona train and bus station. Creative time will be followed by a visit to the Weihnachtsmarkt nearby. If interested, please contact Catherine at: catherine.l.masek@gmail.com

Munich:

Instead of a critique afternoon, members will meet up for some much needed creative time. Date and time to be determined. If interested please contact Twyla at: twyla.weixl@gmail.com

Stuttgart:

The Stuttgart group doesn’t have a meeting scheduled in December but we’ll meet again in January on a date (not yet confirmed but after the school holidays). It would be great if members could bring their favourite / most useful book on craft to share with the group and we’ll also set ourselves some creative goals for 2018. For more information, please contact Catherine at: cjfriess@gmx.com

Tübingen:

The next Creative Tuesday is on Dec. 12, 9:30 at Sanne’s studio. The focus will be on drawing hands. For more information please contact Sanne at: germanyaustria-ic@scbwi.org

If you are interested in having your 2016 or later published PAL book in the catalogue, please visit https://bologna.scbwi.org/scbwi-bologna-book-fair-2018/digital-catalogue/ for more information. The SCBWI will be actively promoting the digital catalogue with publishers from around the world. It will also be available through this website and provided on promotional material distributed at the fair.

For the first time the SCBWI will be calling for submissions of unpublished picture book manuscripts for our famous Duelling Illustrators. The submissions will be evaluated by our judges and the selected manuscripts will be read during the duels at the Bologna Showcase. The #1 entry will receive a written critique and an invitation to submit their work to this year’s judge.

Undiscovered Voices

After months of waiting, the longlist of finalists for this year’s anthology has been announced. As ever, the quality of submissions was extremely high and the judges had a very difficult time deciding.

The Undiscovered Voices team endeavours to create an anthology that showcases the variety of writing and illustration available from SCBWI members in the British Isles and the European Union.  The goal of the anthology is not only to help the selected authors and illustrators to find agents and editors, but also to promote the quality of work abounding in SCBWI in Europe.
